Finding Out We’re Pregnant

It was only our third month trying.

Short in terms or trying to conceive, but enough time to have those first hints of fear creep in.

How long is this going to take? How painful is this journey going to be?

During the two week wait between ovulation and waiting to take a pregnancy test, I had barely any symptoms. I told my closest friends that I really didn’t think I was pregnant. I only noticed two days before my expected period, that I was waking up super early and feeling very warm.

Of course, because I was charting my basal body temperature with FAM I knew that my temperature was a little higher those two days (which can be a sign of pregnancy) but I chalked it up to getting a bad night’s sleep.

I managed to wait till the morning of my expected period to take a test. I woke up early for me, 6am, from a dream where I had gotten a positive pregnancy test and told my whole family and best friend. Well that sure got me excited, and the first thing I did that morning was pee in a cup and dip in my cheapo pregnancy test (as to not waste a more expensive one on a negative), and when the two lines appeared three minutes later, I broke down in the bathroom crying. It wasn’t tears of joy really, but more of relief. My questions of how long is this going to take were finally answered. I then dipped in my nicer pregnancy test just for fun.

Brooks’ alarm wasn’t set to go off for another hour and a half and I wanted him to get a good night’s sleep, so I went out on our balcony and journaled and listened to music and thanked God for this miracle and gift. Then when I heard Brooks’ alarm go off, I crawled into bed with him and said “guess what?” and stuck the positive pregnancy test in his face. It was pitch black in our room and he couldn’t really read it, but of course he knew and we hugged and kissed and celebrated and were in a happy daze the whole rest of the day.

We decided to wait to tell our family two days later, only because I had the idea to carve a pregnant pumpkin and tell them via video call the day after Halloween. Well, the pumpkins didn’t turn out as cute as I had hoped (it looks like I have a pregnant chin LOL), but our families were so excited for us!
